Description
Our online courses are conducted through the LAMP Consortium on Sakai, a learning management system (LMS). You never need to be at your computer at any specific hour. More information about how these asynchronous classes are conducted is available here.
This six-week online course in Copyediting assumes that participants have a basic knowledge of copyediting skills and are interested in honing their skills in querying, preserving author voice and style, and advanced grammar points (wordiness, sentence structure, parallelism, common writing flaws). Students will also learn how to be flexible and even “break the rules.”
It is recommended you take the beginning copyediting class before taking the intermediate copyediting class unless you have professional copyediting experience with The Chicago Manual of Style.
Required readings will be from the following texts:
- The Copyeditor’s Handbook, 4th edition, Amy Einsohn (The accompanying The Copyeditor’s Workbook is not required for this course, although it has exercises you may want to do on your own.)
- The Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition
- Carol Saller’s The Subversive Copyeditor
