Susannah Noel

Noel Editorial

Since 1995, I have freelanced as a copyeditor and proofreader for trade fiction and nonfiction books. My clients include Macmillan, Penguin Random House, Simon & Schuster, Chelsea Green Publishing, Harvard University Press, and many others. I edit all genres, but I’m particularly fond of literary fiction, memoir, creative nonfiction, women’s fiction, and historical fiction.

I formed Noel Editorial in 2017 with my brother, Christopher Noel. We offer manuscript evaluations, developmental and line editing, copyediting, proofreading, and query letter review for authors who are looking to publish traditionally or independently. Chris has decades of experience as well as an author, writing teacher, and freelance editor.

Outside of Noel Editorial, I am the cofounder of Editorial Arts Academy, a training and mentoring program dedicated to helping people become freelance book editors through training, support, and referral. I run a copyediting group mentorship and offer classes in all levels of editing through the EAA website.

Since April 2022, I have worked in-house at St. Martin’s Publishing Group, part of Macmillan Publishers, as a production editor, shepherding books through the process of being copyedited, typeset, and proofread.

I live with my husband, two sons, dog, and two cats in Barre, Vermont.
