Tomeworks Editing
Why wouldn’t you want to work with an editor who volunteers as a municipal liaison for NaNoWriMo, coordinates her local chapter of the Editorial Freelancers Association, and founded Houston Independent Authors, an education and networking group with over 500 authors?
Eyetooth Editing focuses on speculative fiction and genre fiction with independent authors and small-to-medium-size publishers. If you write science fiction, dystopia, urban fantasy, alternate history, steampunk, supernatural, paranormal romance, magical realism, apocalypse, gaslamp, superhero fiction, mysteries, suspense, thrillers, or any other speculative fiction genre, Eyetooth Editing is for you.
What Services Does Eyetooth Editing Provide?
Developmental Editing: this is an evaluation of the big-picture elements of your plot such as your world building, magic systems/speculative science, continuity, logical consistencies, character arc, believability, dialogue, pacing, and more. You will get a manuscript workup with commentary showing where issues are at the line level; a comprehensive editorial letter that explains where the problems are, why they’re problems, and ways of fixing them; and an optional free hour of phone consultation time.
Manuscript Assessment: also called manuscript critique and manuscript evaluation, this is a scaled-back developmental edit that helps you determine where you should take your story next. You will get an extensive editorial letter highlighting the most pressing big-picture issues in your story, determination on whether the story is ready for micro editing such as line editing or copy editing, and resources for improving craft if necessary. You will also receive an optional free hour of consultation time.
Line Editing: a line edit is perfect for when your story elements are solid but you need line-by-line assistance such as polishing dialogue so each character speaks distinctly, cleaning up narrative exposition so it’s both evocative and succinct, and ensuring each sentence jumps off the page and grabs the reader. You will receive a manuscript updated in Track Changes, a brief feedback letter providing an overview of the changes, a tailored style sheet, and an optional free hour of consultation time.
Book Coaching: this is instrumental guidance provided by a skilled editor. This can range from help getting yourself motivated to write the book, creating strong habits, tailored assistance building up your writing craft, advice on how to pitch your book to agents, assistance writing your queries, help navigating the self-publishing world, and guidance on marketing and advertising.
Storyboard Consultation: also called plot consultation, storyboard consultation helps you create a solid, well-rounded, and wholly unique outline. If you’ve hit a snag in your plot or have only the a few elements of inspiration for a story idea, storyboard consultation guides you step by step to create strong arcs and strong characters as the bones of your novel.
Eyetooth Editing also provides query submission reviews for when you’re sending your book to an agent; copywriting for blurbs, synopses, blogs, and webpages; and hosts educational workshops.
