Becca Johnson Creative
As a book coach and developmental editor, I help authors find the magic in their stories and make their books shine. I love to help them realize their vision and tell the truest version of the story they set out to tell.
Working with a book coach or editor can give you clarity, confidence, and accountability. They can help you get to the heart of your story and not give up on it.
I believe the world can never have too many stories, and I would love to help you bring yours to life.
Services available
Manuscript evaluation – I’ll look at your finished manuscript to evaluate what’s working, what’s not, and how we can strengthen your story and its elements.
A manuscript evaluation includes:
- Editorial letter (minimum of 5 pages and often closer to 15 pages) with my feedback and revision guidance/next steps
- 60-minute coaching call over Zoom to discuss the feedback and help brainstorm and problem solve
Developmental edit – I’ll help you pinpoint exactly where your story can be strengthened and how to uncover its best version. Let’s sharpen character arcs and interiority, pacing, description, subplots, and all the other story-level elements of your book!
A developmental edit includes:
- Comments in the document to help you find the exact places where your story can be polished (or where it’s already shining)
- Editorial letter (often 10-15 pages) with big-picture feedback and revision guidance
- 60-minute coaching call over Zoom to discuss the feedback and help brainstorm and problem solve
Writing coaching – For writers who are currently writing their rough draft. This is meant to support you through the drafting process with feedback, guidance, and accountability.
Writing coaching includes:
- Twice-monthly submission from the author of up to 20 pages (Word document with 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced)
- Feedback (comments in document) on characters, plot, worldbuilding, mood, consistency, and pacing
Writing coaching plus – For writers who want support through the drafting process with feedback, guidance, and accountability, plus extra support and more guidance in implementing my feedback.
Writing coaching plus includes:
- Twice-monthly submission from the author of up to 20 pages (Word document with 1-inch margins, 12-point Times New Roman font, double-spaced)
- Feedback (comments in document) on characters, plot, worldbuilding, mood, consistency, and pacing
- One-page letter summarizing feedback and revision suggestions
- Monthly 30-minute Zoom calls to brainstorm and problem solve
Testimonials from happy clients
“I can’t recommend working with Becca enough! I recently worked with her on a manuscript evaluation and the feedback she provided was incredibly insightful and thoughtful. The editing process can be tough and it’s really important to find someone who can see all the strength in a manuscript and work with you to make it even better. Becca has such a lovely balance of professionalism and empathy that it gets you really excited to dive back into the edits for your story. I’ll definitely be working with her on future books in the series!”
“Becca went above and beyond what I was hoping for. I feel like I have a solid understanding of what my book needs/already has, and she made me excited to work even more. Everything was so thorough and the notes are extremely helpful. I will definitely be back for future books!”
“With my manuscript, I was tired of looking at it and constantly questioned if it should be a story that even needs to be written let alone if it was something someone wanted to read. I was in Doubt Purgatory. But, I reached out to work with Becca and within the first moment of talking to her on the consultation call, I felt immediately at ease. Her assurance that stories are worth telling and that she’d be there to meet me with her evaluation prowess gave me the push to move forward and not abandon this story. When I got the evaluation back, everything was laid out efficiently and clearly that I was eager to get back to editing. I know that with her evaluation, I will be making my story, the characters, and the essence of the work stronger. The Doctor couldn’t even dream of a better working companion than you!”
About me
I live in Seattle, Washington with my cat Rook, my two best friends, and my ever-growing library of books. I grew up wandering the wooded fields of my family’s ranch, reading books way past my bedtime, and dreaming up my own stories.
My imagination has always been most captured by fantasy and sci-fi stories, and they’ve impacted my life deeply. Some of my favorite stories are Doctor Who, The Lord of the Rings, The Raven Cycle, Fullmetal Alchemist, the Winternight trilogy, everything by Margaret Rogerson, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I love the power of words and stories to reveal a new perspective, to bring hope, and to even change the world. I want to help authors realize their dreams and impact the world around them.
I am an Author Accelerator certified book coach.
