I am a certified editor with credentials from the University of Chicago, one of the only programs that offers a specialized program in developmental editing. Handing over a manuscript can be a scary and anxiety-ridden event. You need an editor that you can trust and that you’re comfortable with—a reliable teammate. A quality editor will take the time to uncover the hidden depths of your story, to give honest actionable feedback, and help you grow as a writer. Partnering with writers to bring something new to the reading world is what I love most about being an editor.
I bring a rich tapestry of experience in the academic and corporate world to my editing career. I have a journalism degree, an MBA, on top of my editing certificate. This training has honed my skills in copy editing, line editing, and developmental editing for both fiction and nonfiction. In fiction, I deep dive into plot and character development, dialogue, tension and conflict, themes, pacing, and POV; in nonfiction I focus on thesis development, organization, cohesiveness, and tone. My business background also gives me a unique perspective on leadership, marketing, and other business related topics. I adhere to the Chicago Manual of Style, the preferred style guide of most publishers, and I work in most genres of fiction and nonfiction. My favorite genres are historical, family sagas, women’s fiction, fantasy, science fiction, YA, mystery, and thrillers, and I love a good memoir, self-help, or entrepreneurial book.
