Megan Swenson
I am a graduate of New York University’s MFA in Creative Writing program, at work on my second novel, and available for freelance substantive, content, and copyediting and proofreading work.
I have experience editing both academic and creative publications, including blogs and marketing material. While in New York, I worked with two nationally recognized publishers: as an intern for One Story, Inc., a long-standing short-story publisher, and as a copy editor for Washington Square Review, a semi-annual literary journal of fiction, interviews, poetry, translation, and art. I have worked for the Community of Literary Magazines and Presses as the Firecracker Fellow after previously working as an intern in their Manhattan office. My responsibilities included managing the team of volunteer first readers for the annual Firecracker Awards for Independently and Self-Published Literature as well as assisting with the management of the judging team.
Currently I work for KEY Education, an admissions strategy and learning enrichment company primarily serving first- and second-generation immigrant primary, secondary, undergraduate, and graduate students based out of Vancouver, British Columbia. As an essay coach, I guide students one-on-one through the process of application essay idea generation, planning, drafting, and revising.
Originally I am from Chandler, Arizona, and I hold Bachelors of Arts in Creative Writing and Anthropology, a graduate certificate in Educating Multilingual Learners, and a Master of Arts in English Studies. I am a highly detail-oriented person who believes that the parts must be strong if the whole is to be successful. I am well versed in the Chicago Manual of Style, AP Style Guide, APA, and MLA, but also have experience building and adhering to house styles for various publications. I am a fast learner, flexible, and communicative, and I would love to help your project be the best it can possibly be.
