Wordhound Writing & Editing Services, LLC

Marta Ferguson, a.k.a. Wordhound Writing & Editing Services, LLC, is a freelance writer and editor located in Iowa. She specializes in literary and academic editing and has extensive experience as a literary permissions editor and a project editor. She holds a Ph.D. in English-Creative Writing from the University of Missouri-Columbia and is a former Poetry Editor of The Missouri Review.

Her favorite editing projects are always poetry manuscripts and anthologies, but Marta has worked on many articles, dissertations, theses, novels, short story and essay collections, grant reports, business proposals, educational materials, resumes, and cover letters. She has edited the annual Interpretations anthology, published by the Columbia Art League, in conjunction with its annual Interpretations exhibit of writers and artists. She writes food and lifestyle articles for local and regional publications, knocks out the occasional book review, and periodically teaches classes on poetry, editing, recipe writing, and The Artist’s Way.

Her first poetry chapbook, Mustang Sally Pays Her Debt to Wilson Pickett, appeared in 2005 from Main Street Rag, and her Rhysling-nominated poetry anthology Drawn to Marvel: Poems from the Comic Books, co-edited with Bryan D. Dietrich, appeared in 2014 from Minor Arcana Press. Her first mystery novel, Demeter West and the Ghost Town Glitch, appeared in 2018 with Eyrie Editions. Marta recorded and produced the novel’s audiobook with Audible in 2019. Demeter West and the Absent Presence appeared with Eyrie Editions in 2020.

Marta’s poems have appeared widely in literary magazines including 5AM, Prairie Schooner, and Rattle. Poems are available online at So to Speak, The Adirondack Review, and The Cortland Review, and have recently appeared in several small-press anthologies. Her work has been reprinted at Poetry Daily and in the Great American Poetry Show and has twice been nominated for Pushcart prizes. She was a finalist for the 2011 Alligator Juniper National Writing Contest and her circulating manuscript has received honors at White Pine, the Gell Prize, Zone 3, and elsewhere.
