Hiring an editor or interior layout designer can be a little overwhelming, so my goal is to make the process of working with me as comfortable as possible for you.
If you’re a fiction author, you’re looking for an editor with experience in your genre, someone who will preserve your voice and your story, and someone who is skilled and trustworthy. I can provide you with all of those things, as well as offer a learning experience that will improve your writing as your career progresses. I specialize in copyediting and proofreading. While I’m not a developmental editor, part of my service includes basic fact-checking and pointing out inconsistencies in plot and character.
If you’re looking for an interior layout designer, you want a professional who uses industry standard software and knows how to produce final PDF and EPUB files that will be accepted by any book retailer. I use your book’s cover to ensure that the cover and interior of your book will look and feel like a cohesive unit. Once you approve sample pages of the design, I will proceed to typeset your book page by page and line by line to produce the most aesthetically pleasing pages possible.
Industry Experience
I have more than 15 years of experience in editing and proofreading. After editing in the corporate sector for seven years, I made the switch to fiction in 2015. Since then, regular clients include large and small publishers [Kensington Publishing (NYC), Hodder & Stoughton (Hachette UK), Pegasus Books (NYC), Podium (LA), Severn River Publishing (VA)], dozens of indie authors, and three other editing companies. To date, I’ve worked on more than 400 books.
After taking several courses and designing many interiors for practice, I began doing interior book layout for clients in 2018. I am the sole interior layout designer for Blue Pen Books, and between them and my own indie clients, I have designed almost 100 books to date (2024).
Education and Training
Through various courses, I’ve continued to strengthen my editing skills and add to my qualifications. I’ve taken several courses offered by the EFA, and from the Publishing Training Centre, I’ve earned an Essential Grammar certificate and a Distinction in Proofreading (PTC’s highest score). I’ve also earned a Certificate in Editing from Poynter University in association with ACES, scoring 100% on the grammar assessment.
I’ve attended the Writers’ Police Academy twice (in 2017 and 2018), where I took various courses taught by law enforcement, EMTs, firefighters, and scientists that help with realism and fact-checking in stories that involve law enforcement or weapons.
Industry Involvement
I belong to several editorial associations, and I’m currently a coordinator for the EFA’s Michigan chapter.
Client Focus
I’m happy to work with indie authors, publishers, and editing services companies. I’m a huge fan of indie books, and there’s nothing like the collaborative effort of working with an indie author to bring a new book to its readers. My schedule is usually booked a few months out for editing and proofreading (a couple of weeks out for interior layout), but I’m always available to take on new clients. I’d love to be part of your team.
