Lauren Donovan

The Book Foundry

Hi! I’m Lauren Donovan. I’m a freelance editor who offers developmental editing, copyediting, and proofreading services for a variety of writing projects: fiction and creative nonfiction, TTRPG sourcebooks and rulebooks, and everything in between. My fiction specialties are in fantasy, horror, and sci-fi, and I edit toward the Chicago Manual of Style.

I’m a lifelong word nerd and editor with an affinity for fiction writers—especially self-publishing authors and small press publishers. I’ll take those hard-earned words and shape them into the story you envisioned. Focusing on clarity, readability, and fluidity, we’ll work together to craft a book you can be proud to publish.

I have a BA in English from the University of Delaware, and certificates in Effective Editing, Advanced Fiction Writing, and Grammar from Delaware Technical Community College.

I am a member of ACES: The Society for Editing, the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA), and the Horror Writers Association.

“Lauren Donovan provided invaluable help getting my manuscript ready for publication. Not only did she catch an embarrassing number of typos and misspellings, but she found many places where words were repeated too often, awkward phrasings, inconsistent spellings and titles, and more than one place where a character’s name changed for no apparent reason. Her style of editing, providing extensive comments to make sure errors aren’t deliberate (especially important in genre fiction), was very easy to manage. This is the first time I’ve ever enjoyed receiving a round of edits to go through. I can’t recommend enough the feeling of confidence you’ll have going to print after Lauren is done working your manuscript.” – JCM Berne, author of the Hybrid Helix series.
