Laura Markowitz

Laura Markowitz Multimedia, LLC

“Easy reading is damn hard writing!” As a writer, you can probably relate to these words by novelist Nathaniel Hawthorne. Excellent writing requires multiple drafts to hone your ideas and develop your story. With more than 35 years of experience as a full-time, professional editor, I can help. I specialize in developmental editing, ghostwriting, and writing coaching for authors who struggle to get their ideas down on the page.

I am unlike most editors because I’ve also had years of experience being edited—as a National Magazine Award-winning feature writer, producer for public media, YA novelist, textbook co-author, and multimedia producer. From firsthand experience, I know there are significant differences among editors. How can you find the right fit for your project, writing style, and personality? Editorial expertise is important, and so is finding someone who feels genuine enthusiasm for your work. For this reason, I only take on clients whose ideas inspire, delight, and resonate with me. If I feel excited about your project, I know I can help you.

My areas of expertise include YA, science fiction/fantasy, poetry, literature, and adventure. My nonfiction expertise includes economics, psychology, mental health, family therapy, gender/women’s issues, Buddhism, comparative religion, social justice, diversity, equity, inclusion, and civil discourse. I rarely work on memoirs or biographies, and I’m not the right  person to edit romance, mystery, or horror.

You are welcome to contact me for a free email or phone consultation about your project. I look forward to putting my versatile skills to work for your success.

With best wishes,
Laura Markowitz
