Karen Grove Editorial Services

My goal is to work as your partner to make your book shine. I have spent the last 40 years in publishing and have seen many changes in the industry, but the one thing that remains constant is the importance of strong storytelling and emotional connection to characters. That is the heart of fiction.

I started my career as an intern in the art department at St. Martin’s Press, then worked as a production editor for Hearst Magazines and Academic Press. In 1985, I finally found my niche in the children’s editorial department of Harcourt Brace Jovanovich. For the last 35+ years, I’ve specialized in young adult fiction, collaborating with many fine writers and agents to ensure manuscripts reach their full potential. In 2012, I branched out to new adult, women’ts fiction, and romance, working as a senior editor and editorial director with Entangled Publishing. I currently focus on freelance editing for both indie and traditionally published writers in the fields of young adult, new adult, women’s fiction, suspense, and romance. In addition, I do complete project management for publishing houses. You can see my full menu of services here.

As your editor, I consider myself both your coach and cheerleader as we navigate a manuscript. My editorial suggestions will be firm but respectful, and I will encourage you to step a bit beyond what you think you are capable of doing. We will work as a team to ensure your intentions and voice make it from your head to the page. At the end of the process, it’s my hope that you will not only have a polished manuscript ready for publication, but you will have learned a bit more about yourself and the writing craft to take with you to your next project. You’ll find some testimonials from writers I have worked with here.

Let my experience acquiring and editing manuscripts help guide you in polishing your story before it is released to the public.
