Jennifer Amos

In Medias Res LLC

I’m a writer, editor, and creative coach with a broad range of experience and education. I love helping people refine their marketing material and storytelling techniques through editing and creative coaching. Moreover, I love working with a broad range of people, from authors to entrepreneurs.

Education

* AA in General Studies (arts, design, and psychology focus)
* BA in English and Creative Writing
* Graduate Certificate in Professional Writing (marketing and publishing focus)
* MFA in Creative Writing with a specialization in speculative fiction

I graduated in the top 10% of my class and was inducted into two honor societies: The International English Honor Society (Sigma Tau Delta) and the National Society for Leadership and Success (Sigma Alpha Pi). I was also a member of the American Copy Editing Society (ACES) before switching to the EFA. Between my memberships in these societies and the EFA, I have access to continuing education and training that helps me help my clients succeed.

Experience

My technical editing work spans over 15 years. I’ve worked on projects with a variety of clients, from Realtors to auto dealerships, property management companies, psychologists, medical clinics, and many other small businesses and entrepreneurs. These projects encompassed services such as SEO writing, blogging, copyediting, fact-checking, proofreading, digital ad content creation, resumes and cover letters, and creative coaching related to branding efforts. What began as a part-time freelance career grew into full-time jobs with digital marketing and ad agencies.

My creative editing work began more recently, over the past nine years. I started by editing a few short stories, then volunteered as a peer tutor as I completed my creative degree. Nearly seven years ago, NYC Midnight selected me as a co-judge for their writing competitions (a series of international contests for screenplays and fiction). While I worked with them on a contract basis, I provided editing advice and creative coaching to authors. I also helped the company fine-tune internal procedures. This experience combined with my education led me to edit novels, back cover blurbs, and query letters. I also design the occasional logo and pair it with brand-focused marketing visuals.

Author Services

* developmental editing (AKA substantive editing)
* line editing and copyediting (I bundle these)
* proofreading
* manuscript assessment (AKA editorial assessment)
* sensitivity reading (neurodiversity, LGBTQ+, femininity and the female state, domestic violence)
* market and branding assessment
* creative coaching
* ESL editing

I work with fiction of all lengths and genres, literary fiction, poetry, nonfiction, screenplays, query letters, pitches, and back cover blurbs. My services are aimed at maximizing artistic potential and reader engagement while also ensuring your work adheres to storytelling conventions that readers love and expect. All my edits are suggested from a place of kindness and respect. I want to see you succeed, and I know good editing services are part of that journey.

Entrepreneur & Business Services

I edit business and marketing documents at all levels. While editing makes up most of my work, I also occasionally write marketing content for businesses. The material I work with includes:

* SEO website content
* articles
* white papers
* internal company documents
* blog posts
* resumes and cover letters
* essays
* proposals
* ESL documents

If you’d like to work with me but your project includes services not listed, I may be able to accommodate your request. Just send me a description of what you need and we can work out the details. I love challenges and guiding people to success, and I look forward to working with you on your next big adventure.
