Jane Malonis

As a freelance proofreader and copy editor with decades of editorial experience, I’ve become a firm believer in prose that’s well crafted and thoughtfully organized. I enjoy polishing various styles of writing and I understand the need to communicate effectively with stakeholders, follow client guidelines, and take deadlines seriously. I regularly proofread a variety of business-reference works, as well as fiction and general nonfiction, and I am actively interested in new projects and fresh subject areas. I also do subject-matter research, content updating/revision, photo and graphics research, and caption writing.

During my nineteen year career in publishing for Gale Research/Thomson Gale (now part of Cengage Learning), I was the editor of The Encyclopedia of Business, 2nd ed.; The Gale Encyclopedia of E-Commerce; co-editor of The Encyclopedia of Emerging Industries; project editor for The Encyclopedia of Small Business (2nd ed.), and The Encyclopedia of Management. For two years I co-managed project work on The Encyclopedia of Philosophy, 2nd ed. (Macmillan Reference USA, 2005), a 10-volume set that the ALA reviewed as being “highly recommended for academic and public libraries . . . and indispensable to most.”

I received a B.A. in English, as well as a Michigan Secondary Teaching Certificate (grades 7-12), from Wayne State University.

Among my personal interests are the ceramic arts, as well as the baking and pastry arts. I am a graduate of an American Culinary Federation (ACF) accredited culinary school, with a Certificate in Baking and Pastry Arts.
