Dr. Jan Yager
Jan Yager held editorial and other positions at Macmillan Publishing Company and Grove Press and. for more than 25 years, she has run her own independent press, Hannacroix Creek Books, Inc. She has also published more than 60 award-winning books published by such major houses as Simon & Schuster, Doubleday, Penguin Random House, Scribner, Wiley, and other houses, with translations of one or more books into 35 languages. She has published nonfiction, fiction, children’s books, and poetry including WHEN FRIENDSHIP HURTS (Simon & Schuster), HELP YOURSELF NOW (Allworth, imprint of Skyhorse), HOW TO SELF-PUBLISH YOUR BOOK (Square One), VICTIMS (Scribner), ESSENTIALS OF VICTIMOLOGY (Aspen Publishing, 2022); EFFECTIVE BUSINESS AND NONFICTION WRITING (Arco; 2nd edition, Hannacroix Creek); HOW TO FINISH EVERYTHING YOU START (Hannacroix Creek); HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR BOOK (Square One, 2023); and WORK LESS, DO MORE (Sterling).

Since August 2014, she has taught criminology, victimology, and sociology courses at John Jay College of Criminal Justice as well as at other colleges and universities.
Jan’s editing skills include: acquisitions, developmental, project management, and copy editing. She is also available as a book coach and consultant on book proposals, foreign rights, book promotion, and overcoming writer’s block.
