Jamie Lauer
My Credentials in a Nutshell: I am a freelance editor and literary translator with over eight years of combined relevant experience in publishing and editing as well as a Master of Arts degree in comparative literature and a certificate in literary translation. My experience editing for traditional (academic and niche trade) publishers, self-publishing and individual academic authors, and B2B corporations has made me a very adaptable editor. I know how to adjust my editorial focus according to the purpose and style of the writing while still ensuring overall grammatical consistency following a set style guide (such as Chicago, MLA, APA, and custom in-house style guides). My experience also enables me to edit on platforms outside of Microsoft Word, including Adobe, WordPress (and other content management systems), and LaTex/Overleaf.
Special Interests:
- Speculative fiction and fantasy
- Literary fiction and flash fiction
- Academic work in the humanities
- Website content
- ESL and translation editing
A Special Note for Multi-Language/ESL Authors and English Translators: As a literary translator and second-language learner, I understand the difficulties that can arise when trying to express oneself in a non-native tongue. This is why I take a collaborative approach when editing these types of projects; instead of providing once-and-done or one-way feedback, I set aside time to speak with you directly, figuring out what you want to say and how to best to get that across in a colloquial English that still aligns with your (or the original author’s) personality and individual voice.
Contact Me: I want to learn more about your project! Get in touch through my website or by using the email on my CV (linked below).
