Member Profile
James Paul Wallis
I’m James, an editor and proofreader with over two decades’ experience in the publishing industry. I am a professional member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP) and a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association (EFA).
I work in UK and US English as a freelance copy editor and proofreader, helping individuals, publishers, and corporate clients make their text clear and consistent, ready for submission or publication. I specialize in nonfiction, working on a wide range of materials from books to corporate marketing materials, press releases, papers, and articles. Subject areas I have worked in include maths, life science, political science, insurance, aviation, medicine, and ELT and educational publishing.
My career began at one of the UK’s most popular educational publishers, writing and editing maths, science, and language books for schools. I later spent a decade at a trade magazine publisher, serving as editor of an international air rescue magazine (combining aviation and medicine) as well as working on health and travel insurance titles.
I’d love to hear from you to discuss how I can help with your projects.

Testimonials:
“I have worked with many proofreaders and editors and James is by far the best one I was lucky to collaborate with. He was flexible for me to submit some final additions and edits, was timely in his delivery and checked every detail for accuracy. I will be delighted to work with him again!”
— Niousha R., PhD
“One of our clients had her assignment rejected a couple times, but finally, after your proofing, it was accepted! Good Job!”
— Paweł Dzierżak,
“James has been working as a proofreader for us and his work has been excellent throughout. He’s brilliant at spotting mistakes and has a very good feel for the English language. He works fast, and his comments are clear and concise. Last but not least, he’s also very nice to work with.”
