Heather Pendley
Pendley's Pro Editing & Indexing
I’ve edited and indexed all types of projects in genres such as B2B, self-improvement, finance, the culinary arts, and hundreds of PowerPoint presentations for AWS (Amazon Web Services) conferences. I also edit fiction, specifically, children’s books and thrillers/mysteries. Besides years of experience in editing and indexing, I earned a specialized certificate in copyediting from UCSD and successfully completed UC Berkeley’s indexing course. Organization, efficiency, attention to detail, and dependability are crucial skills for a copy editor and indexer and are my strengths. Employing the style guide of your choice, I will ensure your piece shines.
I discovered my love for words at 10 when I was given a manual typewriter. However, shortly after high school, I started a family and abandoned my word-loving ways for more steady work in finance, earning a degree in accounting. Several years ago, I resumed my Word Nerd status as a freelance copy editor, proofreader, and writer of back-of-the-book and embedded indexes. I’ve completed many courses including UC Berkeley’s Indexing Theory and Application, and earned UCSD’s Specialized Certificate in Copyediting. I am a member of ACES and judged its 2020 Headline Contest; I’m on the marketing and membership committees of the American Society of Indexers and serve on the editorial board of its quarterly journal Key Words; and have been a member of the EFA since 2017, currently serving as a Member at Large on its board of governors. I own Pendley’s Pro Editing & Indexing, a certified woman-owned small business.
My references attest to my determination to ensure complete satisfaction. I take pride in helping my clients to produce the most streamlined, easily accessible, and professional work possible. I’m not happy unless you are happy.
As a lifelong California girl—currently residing with my family not too far from the Mexican border—I’m familiar with common US customs as well as the Latino culture.
I do not read, edit, or index religious, supernatural, erotica, horror, or political material.
