Hello and welcome! I’m E.O. Levendorf, an author and editor based in Santa Monica, CA. I’m thrilled you’ve found me and eager to help bring your novel to life!
I graduated with honors from NYU Tisch School of the Arts with a BFA in Dramatic Writing and honed my literary skills editing under a former agent at Dystel, Goderich & Bourret. As a member of the Editorial Freelancers Association, I am committed to excellence across all fiction genres, with a special passion for upmarket, speculative, and high fantasy. Recent clients include: Marilyn Fu, Professor at Columbia University; Christian Durso, Netflix Creator, The Stranded; Shehera Barnes, Reiki Master.
As an author, I can relate to anyone who struggles to fit their art into an empirical world that doesn’t necessarily want or need it. Because the world would get along just fine without novels. And many people will likely never read another book of fiction once they finish their “mandatory” education.
So why should someone read your novel? That is a question I face head-on every day as an editor because it’s ultimately the only one that matters. A great book has to transcend every excuse not to read it. A great book has to lure and capture and dazzle. By some metrics, four million books are published a year, so what will one more matter?
The answer to this question is so deeply personal, I can only answer it for myself. To me, yes, the world would still exist without books, but it would be like a garden of only thorns. To me, more than anything, novels “offer to the betrayed world, a rose.”
