Emily Jane Buehler

Meticulous, dedicated, caring: I edit with attention to both correctness and clarity while preserving the author’s style. You’ll receive kind but honest comments on your work. (I’m a writer, too, so I know what it’s like to get feedback!)

I edit academic articles, including articles by ESL authors. I will transform tangled, technical language into clear, intelligible text and make your writing concise while correcting for spelling, grammar, diction, syntax, and consistency. My background in science (a PhD in physical chemistry and materials science) enables me to avoid inadvertently changing the meaning of sentences. Authors have published papers that I’ve edited in journals including various Nature journals, the Journal of Materials Research and Technology, Applied Surface Science, the Journal of Chemistry, and Electrochimica Acta. I have also edited research reports for the National Academy of Sciences and the WateReuse Research Foundation.

I love copy editing romance and women’s fiction: maintaining the author’s voice while acting as the story’s first reader. I will identify inconsistencies and places where the scene skips ahead too quickly or where a character’s actions are confusing, in addition to correcting spelling, grammar, and punctuation, but only if corrections are warranted. I can tighten wordy passages to enhance clarity or simply point out possibilities to see if they interest you. I would love to help polish your book and prepare it for readers, whether via submission to agents or self-publishing. I have self-published six of my own books, and I’m happy to discuss the process.

I’m always happy to form new partnerships with authors and publishers. I have found that every project is different and will work with a client to meet his, her, or their needs. Read more about how I can help at my website, and contact me at emily@twobluebooks.com with any questions or to discuss your project.
