Emerita Editing

I am Professor Emerita from Stephens College where for thirty years I taught expository writing, creative writing (fiction, memoir, non-fiction, and poetry), literature, and women’s studies. I was a Fulbright Professor of American Studies in Finland in 1998. There I taught Native American Literature and American memoir. I have published poetry, fiction, and memoir as well as scholarly papers in journals. My research specialties include 19th and 20th century American literature, especially Native American literature and African American literature, women’s literature, and eco-feminist activism.  I have worked for twenty-five years as part of a Finnish-English translating team. In that work I specialize in making language concise, precise, elegant, and powerful. I often work on difficult academic articles and dissertations as well as literary projects. I am a peer-reviewer for the Journal of American Studies in Scandinavia and the Helsinki University Press.
