Hi, I’m Christina, founder of Stinn Translations.

I’m a skilled and experienced English–German and German–English translator, editor, and proofreader.

My clients include well-reviewed indie authors (e.g., Daphne Teubner, Nicola Sanders, Natalie Barelli) and Penguin Random House, a Big Five publisher.

Since starting my business in 2017, I have helped hundreds of students, academics, businesses and novelists improve their writing in English and German.

I particularly enjoy working on psychological thrillers, romantic fantasy novels, and historical fiction, but I also take on other projects (including non-fiction titles) that pique my interest.

Literary and creative works are very different from scientific texts and require particular skillsets. As a native-level speaker of German and English, I am intimately familiar with the idioms and expressions in both languages and can offer high-quality translation, editing, and proofreading services for your novel, non-fiction titles, blog articles, and other creative texts.

So far, I have worked on 16 fiction and non-fiction titles.

I am a Professional Member of the Chartered Institute of Editing and Proofreading (CIEP), through which I have taken extensive editorial training and professional development courses.

 

Services:

1. Translation (English<>German):

Readers notice when a book has been translated by a non-native speaker, or by a machine. You don’t want to get bad reviews because of a sloppy translation.

I’ll create a high-quality translation of your manuscript while preserving your unique voice and style. I don’t use machine translation, and I don’t take shortcuts.

The translation you’ll receive from me will be of the highest standard.

2. Translation editing (English<>German):

I closely compare a draft translation from another translator with the original text to make sure that the target text is accurate in content and tone and contains no ambiguities, omissions, or additions. I also smooth out any awkward phrases and clumsy passages and check that the word and style choices are appropriate for the target audience.

The goal is to elevate the quality of the translation so that it reads like an original, i.e., sounds like it was written by a native speaker. This process sometimes requires making significant changes to the initial draft translation.

3. Editing and proofreading of academic and scientific articles:

My background in biological research has provided me with the necessary skills and experience in the scientific publishing and peer-review process to critically assess manuscripts regarding coherence, clarity, and consistency.

Whether you’re a PhD student working on your dissertation or an experienced academic with plenty of publications under your belt: I will professionally proofread or edit your work to make sure your readers can focus on the content (your research) and are not distracted by overlooked language errors or inconsistencies. I also translate abstracts from German to English and vice versa.

4. Copy-editing and native-speaker checks of education materials:

I regularly work with educational publishers on German Revision Guides and other GCSE- and KS4-level learning resources. If you’re working on the next edition of a language assessment guide or textbook and are in need of an experienced copy-editor or a German native speaker, I’d be happy to help.
