Anne M. Hudson

Style & Sense

I have freelanced as a proofreader and copyeditor since 1989. Recent clients include researchers in the US at MIT, Bowdoin College, Florida International University, the Goethe University at Frankfurt, Indiana University at Bloomington, Suffolk University, and the University of California at Berkeley; in Canada at the University of Ottawa; and in China at Beiing University, Huangzhong University of Science and Technology, Nanjing University, and Tsinghua University. I  also provide editorial services  to publishers, individal authors, social issue research organizations, and high-tech consultancies. In addition to my undergraduate major in English with a concentration in linguistics at the University of Massachusetts at Boston, I hold a certificate in professional copyediting from Emerson College.

Many of my clients are nonnative speakers of English and rely on me to correct nonidiomatic English. Client native languages include Chinese, Czech, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Turkish.

My clients attest to my thoughtfulness, professionalism, and attention to detail. One longtime client asserts: “Before sending any manuscript to a journal, I always ask Anne to review my work.” Another says, “I have significantly improved my writing by learnng from [Anne’s] edits.”

Since 1975, my news articles have been published in the World Tribune, Living Buddhism, and New Moon. My poetry has appeared in such print and online publications as the MIT Faculty Newsletter, Poetry Repair Shop, BiWomen, Wavelength, and 3rd Muse Poetry Journal. From 2001 to 2007, together with another Boston writer, I published Facets, an online literary magazine which drew readers from over seventy countries and showcased the work of such emerging talents as the best-selling author of Wild, Cheryl Strayed.
