SF/Bay Area Panel Discussion: When Someone Edits Your Words

We’ve heard tips from expert editors, and we’ve heard feedback from writers who have been edited. But what if you are both? With unique viewpoints from each side of the relationship, hear from a panel of writer-editor professionals as they share their experiences wearing both hats. 

There will be many learning opportunities for writers and editors alike to better understand editorial thinking and processes, then apply these lessons in our own writing or editing practices.

Meet our panelists:

  • Jennifer Della’Zanna is a freelance writer and editor. She has published more than 50 articles for magazines and websites on topics as diverse as firearms, movies, and healthcare. She has developed several online courses and continues to edit and revise courses and textbooks. She has a freelance editing business and performs line editing, copy editing, and proofreading for both nonfiction and fiction authors and publishers. Della’Zanna has published one nonfiction book with drummer Rich Redmond, titled Making it in Country Music: An Insider’s Look at the Industry, and she is also a novelist and short story writer.
  • Adrienne Ross Scanlan is a developmental editor and book coach focusing on memoir, personal essays, narrative nonfiction, and nature or science writing. She’s also an award-winning author (Turning Homeward: Restoring Hope and Nature in the Urban Wild was a 2017 Washington State Book Award Finalist) whose writing has been honored as “notable” in Best American Essays and Best American Science and Nature Writing
  • Courtney Tenz regularly writes about culture and the arts. A novelist by nature and developmental editor by trade, her essays and criticism appear in Harper’s Bazaar, The Guardian, Artsy, The Art Newspaper, Marie Claire, and The Cut, among others.
