Register to join freelance editors Linda Ruggeri and Brittany Dowdle on
Thursday, November 30 at 9:30 a.m. PDT / 12:30 p.m. EDT for the Academic Editing Chapter’s “Let’s Talk About . . . ” conversation, where they will discuss networking in the context of being a freelancer in the publishing industry. While networking is acknowledged as an important part of being successful in business, most people approach it with trepidation, confusion, or discomfort and misunderstand what it means to network effectively. In this talk, participants will reframe the concept of networking, assess their current network, and develop a plan to create a network that is unique to their needs, strengths, and business goals. Attendees will:
- Redefine networking, reimagine what “counts” as networking, and understand the keys to effective networking in today’s business, social, and academic landscapes
- Identify their most urgent and primary business goals, which networking can help them accomplish
- Assess their current networks
- Use their networking goals to identify potential networking partners and where to connect with them
