Join the Chicagoland EFA chapter at 5:30 p.m. CDT on July 26 when freelance editor Molly Rookwood of
Rookwood Editing discusses problematic language and how to approach such material with clients.
Specifically, she’ll focus on the deep roots of antisemitism in fiction and fantasy, exploring how these tropes appear in well-known fantasy and fairytales and occasionally resurface in contemporary writing. You’ll hear how Rookwood handled accidental antisemitism in books she edited, and she’ll offer suggestions on how you can guard against these negative stereotypes as you edit.
Rookwood is a freelance developmental and copy editor for self-publishing and querying writers. She specializes in fantasy, science fiction, and romance, and she uses her knowledge and experience as a Jewish woman to write and educate on Judaism and antisemitism. She lives in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
This meeting is open to all EFA members, their guests, and those with guest memberships. Registration is both limited and required.
