Academic Editing July Coffee Chat: AI for Academic Editors
No matter where you fall on the AI comfort spectrum—from “AI will take my job!” to “AI’s the best tool humanity has!”—you likely want to learn more about it, and especially how it might affect your work as an editor. Register to join the Academic Editing Chapter’s July Coffee Chat on Tuesday, July 16, at 10 a.m. PDT / 1 p.m. EDT to talk about the promise and pitfalls of AI.
Some topics we might cover include:
- How does AI actually work and what can it do?
- How can editors use AI to enhance their own human intelligence?
- What types of prompts, and what querying techniques, can get the best output?
- What questions do authors have about the use of AI in editing and how can we help them?
- What are AI’s limitations and what are its strengths?
- How are publishers approaching the use of AI in writing, in editing, and in other ways?
- Can AI be used to free editors’ time for more creative and intellectual work?
- Can AI be trained to do your laundry?
The answer to that last one is probably no (sigh), but we look forward to a lively discussion about AI. Sure, you could ask ChatGPT to answer your questions, but we provide the human touch.
