Academic Editing August Coffee Chat: The Joys of Editing
Editors are good at identifying and solving problems—we’re always ready to tell an author how to better organize a chapter, how a sentence could be more clearly phrased, or how to tweak formatting to help readers navigate a dense article. But how often do you think about the parts of editing that make you feel happy, satisfied with your day’s work, or as if you truly made a contribution? Register to join the Academic Editing Chapter’s August Coffee Chat on Thursday, August 15, at 4 p.m. PDT / 7 p.m. EDT to discuss what we like about editing.
Some questions we might reflect on include:
- What editing tasks or habits put you into that productive flow state?
- Do you have any practices that lead you to a happier frame of mind when you’re editing?
- What parts of editing that other people hate are the ones that you love?
- Are you all about the journey/process of editing or is it the final, clean, clear result that gives you the tingles?
- What author or publisher interactions have given you the most job satisfaction?
It’s easy to worry about the problems. Join us to discover and celebrate the joys!
