Jill on the Hudson Editorial
As a crackerjack editor, it’s my job to understand exactly and deeply what your writing is about, so that I can help make it everything it can be. Whether I’m doing light or substantive editing, whether your “voice” needs to be retained or developed, I apply the editorial skills I’ve gained over 30 years in trade publishing, television production, researching, generating b2b marketing materials, and even pharmaceutical advertising.
Whatever your project is, I will help you make sure your work is the best it can possibly be.
My clients include award-winning novelists, nationally known not-for-profit institutions and NGOs, publishing houses, pharma and other advertising agencies, university professors, Fortune 500 companies, as well as the local village government and PTA. Whether the need is for proofreading or for substantive, line, or copy editing, I provide superior, expert, and delightful service to my clients. I’ve even skillfully done comparison proofreading in 14 languages (for an international pharma firm).
Recently, a new client sent me a novel for some editorial magic. Here’s his assessment once the work was done: “Jill was exactly the pro I hoped she was. I’ve worked with several editors, both freelance and large NY publishing houses, and Jill gave them all a run for their money. Insightful, smart, accurate, specific, and a great communicator — I truly enjoyed the process. In fact, it’s prompted me to dust off a book I’d paused for a couple of years as I think she will be able to help unlock its potential. Strongly recommend — but not when I want to use her!”
AWARD-WINNING / BEST-SELLING EDITING and/or PROOFREADING PROJECTS:
2024: Pub date for Ivy Fairbanks’ fabulous first rom-com/dramedy is August 20! After being self-published last year and enjoying its ranking in the top 100 in its Amazon categories for quite a while, the book was picked up by Putnam Books (an imprint of Penguin Random House) as the first book of a three-book deal!
2023: Published in May, LIVING by Jeff Stewart was a category bestseller on Amazon for many weeks (the categories being parenting, cancer, and medical professional biographies); the marketing hasn’t even started in earnest, yet.
Further back in history: Steven Schindler’s novel, THE LAST SEWER BALL, was awarded the New York Book Festival’s grand prize; Nadine Feldman’s novel FOREIGN LANGUAGE OF FRIENDS garnered the Next Generation Indie Book Awards finalist award for Chick Lit; Tasha C. Miller’s novel SHE WANTS HER consistently appeared in the top 20 of Amazon’s paid Kindle titles in LesFic for months, and months, and months; and Ron Kaufman’s UPLIFTING SERVICE (for proofreading only) made an appearance on the NYT Bestseller list (paperback Advice).
I have a Master’s in Teaching (specializing in English for adolescents). I’ve also worked as a television producer (and I have a local Emmy for one of the talk shows I worked on); a regional supervisor for a national bookstore chain; and I was a colleague of Audrey Hepburn’s, when she worked for UNICEF. Each one of my jobs has followed a single thread — helping people to communicate, and understand, in the best way possible.
