William C. Hawley
I’m an accomplished line editor, copy editor, proofreader, writer, fact-checker, project manager, and recipe developer. I specialize in editing and writing business, educational, and food-focused content, but I also have rather broad knowledge in the subject areas of wine, biology, nature, LBGT+ issues, literature, media/journalism, politics and policy, and popular entertainment.
I can fix your grammar, spelling, and punctuation without losing your unique voice. I can conduct research or original reporting, write stories or marketing materials, or line edit your work of fiction or college admissions essay. I can also manage production processes and projects.
For about 15 years, I was a senior editor at Bloomberg Markets magazine. I oversaw copyediting and fact-checking of Markets and, for three years, Bloomberg Pursuits, its luxury-lifestyle offshoot. I also edited the columns and features of wine and spirits expert Elin McCoy; edited stories in Markets‘ Strategies section, which acted as a promotional and training tool for the Bloomberg Terminal, the parent company’s core product; and chose and edited opinion columns, among other duties.
I had previously worked as a newspaper municipal reporter and business news service copywriter. I’ve designed the website for three of my own businesses, and I’ve been a dedicated blogger for more than 15 years.
After almost everyone on the staff of Markets, including me, was let go, I fulfilled a dream I’d had for many years: creating and selling my own frozen desserts. I made traditional ice creams and sorbets as well as creamy-textured vegan frozen desserts using a formula I developed. Whenever possible, I sourced ingredients from local farms and my own backyard, and I sold my products at a weekly farmers’ market.
My latest public blog, at billhawley.net, showcases my editorial and culinary skills.
I have a bachelor’s degree from The College of New Jersey with majors in English (journalism/professional writing track) and biology.
I live in South Florida with my husband, Tony.
