Julia R Barrett LLC
My academic background in biochemistry, toxicology, and journalism, paired with excellent research skills and sharp-eyed attention to detail, forms the foundation for my work as a science editor. I’m at home with medical and life sciences, and I also have experience editing research papers and other documents in fields such as economics, accounting research, physics, chemistry, earth science, and astronomy.
I am a member of the National Association of Science Writers, the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences, and the Editorial Freelancers Association. I received my Editor in the Life Sciences (ELS) certification from the Board of Editors in the Life Sciences in 2002.
As an editor, I aim to strengthen the clarity of authors’ writing and assist them in presenting their research and other information to readers. This work includes careful attention to spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, and style. I primarily use Word and LaTeX (Overleaf) in editing, and I have solid familiarity with ACS Style Guide, AMA Manual of Style, AP Style Guide, APA Style Guide, Chicago Manual of Style, and CSE Scientific Style and Format.
