Katie Haywood
I am a seasoned freelance publishing professional with over 30 years of experience in the field. Well versed in both Chicago and APA styles, I have consistently received accolades for my work as a copy editor (“editor par excellence,” “a master of that craft,” “a nonpareil mechanical editor”). I also have extensive experience working with the nuts and bolts of file prep and have worked with authors and institutions in preparing clean, streamlined copy that conforms to specified style guidelines. I am known for my thoroughness and attention to detail as well as my “wonderful endurance, tact, and good humor.”
Current and former clients include the Catholic University of America Press, Dana Press, Duke University Press, Epic Games, Johns Hopkins University Press, Kachergis Book Design, Lewis Carroll Society of North America, North Carolina Arts Council, North Carolina Collection (UNC Libraries), Oxford University Press, Pennsylvania State University, Shambhala Publications, Smithsonian Institution Press, University of Nevada Press, UNC Institute for Research in Social Science, UNC Press, Vanderbilt University, as well as individual authors, including students and academicians seeking help with theses and book manuscripts.
When not working with words, I like to get out and feed my adventurous side. I’ve skydived through the Carolina blue sky, rafted the Grand Canyon, and skied the powdery slopes of the Canadian Rockies. One of my biggest passions is aikido, a Japanese martial art based on the principles of nonresistance and reconciliation. I have been practicing the art since 1996.
