Meg Toth

Birchwood Editing

I work with both academic and creative writers at every stage of the writing process: idea development, copy editing, and proofreading. I taught college literature, film, and writing courses for over fifteen years before moving into editing. I am currently Managing Editor of Early American Studies and an Assistant Editor/Reader (Fiction) for Conjunctions Magazine, so I have unique insight into the publication process for both scholars and creatives. Scholars I’ve worked with have gone on to publish their books with premier academic presses (Cambridge UP, Oxford UP, etc.). While I specialize in the humanities (especially literature, film, media studies, and gender studies), I am a generalist capable of editing documents across disciplinary lines. I also have experience with grants, both as a recipient and as an external evaluator. In addition to my academic expertise, I have experience in creative writing. I am a published writer who works with clients on fiction and memoir. I can assist with beta reads, manuscript critiques, and query packages. I also have been awarded competitive literary residencies (Ragdale, Kimmel Harding Nelson, etc.) and am happy to work with clients on residency applications.
