Greetings! It is a pleasure to meet you here. You probably want to know more about me than just keywords. Here goes:
A writer and editor all my adult life, three years ago I decided to finally devote myself to these passions and talents. If you like hard numbers, I conservatively estimate that I have about 5 years of copywriting experience and about 3 of copyediting (and counting). I have also been a beta reader.
In addition to the creative world, I’ve exercised my writing and editing skills in IT, customer service, and office administration. My worldly (and word-ly) exposure is eclectic: I’ve been employed by newspapers, magazines, and engineering firms. I currently freelance for a publishing house, and for almost three years I ran communications and handled web copywriting for an aviation education foundation.
My education includes an MFA in Fiction and a BA in English Literature. I was on fiction review teams with two college literary journals.
Now let’s talk about you. I already respect and appreciate you — even though we haven’t met yet! The fact that you are here — as a creator, and as one with the dedication to take your efforts to the next level — makes you heroic in my book.
I also recognize the courage this step may require for you. I have been edited as often as I have been an editor, so I know how exciting and terrifying it can be. You are not just entrusting your creative baby to this person; you are exposing your inner creative flame to them.
What do you want and need out of an editor? Consider whether you feel you would benefit from someone who:
- strives to “get” you
- considers clear and reliable communication a necessity
- has an unnatural eye for detail
- is empathic and intuitive
- is fiercely committed to excellence
- will enjoy helping you explore more deeply the form and meaning of your words
- finds fulfillment in empowering you as a writer and communicator with insights and techniques on both craft and communication
If you answered “Yes” to more than one of these, it sounds to me like you are someone who wishes to resonate more powerfully with your readers and with yourself. In that case, let’s talk!
