Annalisa Bolin
I am a freelance editor with 9 years of experience and an erstwhile academic with a PhD in anthropology and an extensive international research background. I specialize in line editing and copyediting, especially academic editing in social sciences and humanities, and work often with people writing in English as Second Language (ESL).
I love working at a sentence and paragraph level: smoothing out language, cleaning up grammar, spelling, and punctuation, installing transitions, pointing out gaps in the structure or argument, and generally making your writing sound like you, but better. I can also provide big-picture feedback (is your argument working? How’s the structure?) or proofread a final draft to catch any mistakes before it goes to press.
Fields I’ve worked in include anthropology, archaeology, heritage studies, art history, urban studies, law, and even chemical engineering, among others. I have edited books, articles, grant applications, proposals, and other materials like presentations and public essays. I also regularly do peer review for articles and book manuscripts—and I’ve been the editorial assistant for a journal for years—so I know what your reviewers are going to look for, too. My own publications have appeared in academic journals, edited volumes, blogs, and elsewhere (including literary magazines), so I can help tailor your writing for different audiences.
My rates are in line with EFA norms but I also have reduced rates for clients at institutions in the Global South. Please see my website for more info!
