Houston chapter: Lean Business Plans for Freelance Editors (virtual)
The next EFA Houston meeting will be Wed., Jan. 31, 6 to 7:30 p.m. (Central), online (free).
About the presentation: Freelance editors are entrepreneurs and business owners whether they realize it or not, and every business needs a plan. Join Shannon Winton for a presentation on lean business plans for freelance editors. She will cover a myriad of topics to answer these questions and help get your editing business off the ground:
- Why is a lean business plan right for me?
- What are the components of a lean business plan?
- How do I cut through the confusion and find solutions to my unique business needs?
- How much should I get paid?
- How do I find my ideal customer?
- When should I pivot if my current strategies are not working?
New editors can feel like they are floating out to sea without guidance relative to their specialty. The goal of this online seminar is to give you concrete, actionable information so you can make educated decisions on how to create your initial business platform and improve the odds your editing business will be a success.
About the presenter: Shannon Winton is a co-coordinator of the Editorial Freelancers Association Houston chapter, co-founder of the Tomeworks Editing Collective, co-founder of Houston Independent Authors, and a serial volunteer. Through their family business, 319 Media Integrations, Shannon and her husband have supported entrepreneurs and the startup community by aiding University of Houston’s Red Labs, HATCH Pitch, START/Station Houston’s monthly Demo Day, Rice University’s LILLIE Pitch Competition, and Rice University’s OwlSpark.
This is the first time Shannon has presented these concepts outside of the startup community.
Note: Although the presentation is expected to run one and a half hours, please allow up to two hours to thoroughly explore novel concepts with an audience of editors.
