Join the EFA’s Social Media Team!
EFA’s social media presence has changed. In 2023, we have focused our social media voice on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. We recently added Bluesky. Our aims with the social media team presence are to amplify EFA’s visibility to members and potential editorial clients.
We try for a mix of different types of posts:
- Editing tips
- Discussion items
- Content from other partner organizations
- Upcoming EFA classes
- EFA news
- Lifestyle of a freelancer
- Publishing industry information
- How to hire a freelancer
The social media team is volunteer run. Each of our outlets has a platform leader, and members rotate serving as monthly hosts. Nonfiction editor Pam Eidson became team leader in June 2023 after previously being leader of the EFA’s now-defunct Twitter platform. Members of the EFA volunteer to be part of the team, often with particular platforms they are especially interested in.
Here are a few things our volunteers have shared about their experiences:
“I learned a lot about the importance of branding and the EFA’s ‘voice.’”
“My time volunteering on LinkedIn was just as amazing as my time on Facebook! I tried signing up for another month, but the calendar is all filled! Yay for EFA, boo for me!”
“As always, people engaged most with posts asking for advice or editing tips for the benefit of ‘rookies.’ EFA members like to help and give advice. It seems, too, that we have quite a few followers on LinkedIn who appreciate posts about editing basics, judging by the reactions, shares, and impressions for the em– and en–dash informational post.”
Why volunteer to be part of the team? Volunteering for your association helps you feel a part of a larger endeavor. When you see how people respond to posts, seek out editing information of interest to distribute to others, or tell followers about upcoming book festivals and author resources, you are contributing value to the association, your editorial colleagues, and potential clients.
