I am an experienced freelance editor who works primarily in science fiction, fantasy, and romance. The more the better—genre-blending manuscripts are some of my favorites! I love when writers experiment and take risks.
Since 2019, I have worked with independent authors and small publishers as a developmental, line, and copy editor. I am a team player, accustomed to collaborating with a larger editorial team, writers, and administrative staff, but I also enjoy working directly with independent authors and have a soft spot for debut novels.
I have played a role in acquisitions at several literary magazines and publishing houses over the years, including Relay Publishing, Lightspeed Magazine, Parsec Ink, and the Florida Review. As a Senior Editor at Relay Publishing, I take the lead on developmental editing, evaluate candidates for writing roles, and provide guidance on emerging market trends. I can assess both the quality and marketability of writing, and guide both new and experienced writers through the revisions process with clear and constructive feedback.
I build strong relationships with my clients, many of whom have rewarded my hard work with testimonials on my business website. My communication is clear but kind, and I always provide craft-based or market-based reasoning for my developmental changes. Although every project has different needs, I always read carefully for plot structure, theme, compelling romantic attraction, pacing, and continuity. I also have an excellent command of grammar, punctuation, and style, and edit in accordance with the Chicago Manual of Style. My goal is to maintain the author’s personal syntax and style while reducing passive voice, tightening the prose, and maintaining consistency. I can help clients on the prose level, if desired, by teaching sound and rhythm, economy of language, the use of concrete language, and how to craft imagery.
I’ve taught creative writing at Full Sail University and the University of Central Florida, served as a first reader for Lightspeed Magazine, Parsec Inc., and the Florida Review, and judged the Raw Dog Screaming Press Reader’s choice awards.
I graduated with an MFA in Fiction from the University of Central Florida, and am an alumni of the Alpha Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror Workshop for Young Writers.
