Paul Neuviale
I’m a passionate developmental editor and writing coach, specializing in nonfiction (self-help, how-to, and memoirs). I work primarily with independent authors, life coaches, and course creators, covering subjects such as personal development, spirituality, relationships, burnout, trauma, loneliness, mindset, gratitude, love, boundaries, cancer, dementia, grief, addiction and recovery, marginalization, LGBTQ+, ASL, Enneagram, MBTI, Internal Family Systems, transpersonal psychology, Christianity, new age, fringe spirituality…
If you’ve got an amazing story, an original take on an engaging topic, and a fresh new voice, I want to hear from you!
I learned my craft at Toronto Metropolitan University’s Publishing program and Simon Fraser University’s Editing program. I am also a member of Editors Canada and the Editorial Freelancers Association.
As an editor, I pride myself on my ability to look at big-picture items and small details simultaneously. I keep in mind both what is there and what could be there. This allows me to successfully bring your vision to life. Here is how I can help:
• When you’ve poured your heart and soul into your book for many months, it can be hard to see the forest for the trees. As an unbiased outsider, I can help you identify your strengths and areas for improvement, as well as next steps.
• Together, we can assert your position as a subject matter expert to zero in on your target audience, your book thesis, and a compelling outline that ties it all together.
• The writing process can be a very emotional one. I have helped many authors navigate this process and cope with imposter’s syndrome and writer’s block, among other things. I can be your accountability partner, setting up a writing schedule that you can stick to.
Services:
• Developmental editing
• Manuscript assessments
• Writing coaching
Testimonials:
If you want to know what it’s like to work with me, here is what my clients have to say about my work:
• “Paul is one of the best editors I have ever worked with. His attention to detail is impeccable, and he is thorough, thoughtful, and honest. I appreciate his feedback, as I know it comes after careful consideration of each word and each paragraph, while never compromising an author’s voice and writing style. Paul is immediate with his responses and genuinely celebrates all of the small (and big!) victories his authors experience.” (Jaime L. Mathews, author of Sunroofs and Shoeboxes)
• “My book covers sensitive topics that, if written carelessly, could end an author’s career before it even started. But, with Paul’s patience and tutelage, we navigated the topics successfully. Paul took the time to make sure I understood the correct and most respectful phrasing and even helped me understand why that was important. I am certainly a stronger writer having worked with Paul.” (Jennifer Andersen Smith, author of So That: For Relationships)
• “Paul’s knowledge, careful attention, and encouragement added so much to the quality of my book. From fact-checking quotes to formatting footnotes and checking primary sources, he was a stickler. He gave his input while remaining completely respectful of the integrity of the ideas discussed. His contributions make me confident that my book will have the impact I am hoping for.” (H. David Burstein, author of Smartphones Don’t Give Hugs)
