Jennifer Dinsmore Editorial
Publishing a book involves a lot of work, especially when you choose to self-publish. You’re responsible for everything from editing all the way through production, design, and marketing.
But before you do all that, you want to be sure the book is going to resonate with your intended audience. No matter how amazing the story, readers will lose interest if the prose is unclear, your characters pop up out of nowhere, or the text is riddled with typos that take them out of the story.
I have over a decade of experience helping independent authors such as yourself publish high-quality novels of which they can be proud—and that readers will love. Providing either copyediting or proofreading, I’ll work hard to ensure that you leave feeling confident you’ve fully realized your creative vision, and with a compelling, polished manuscript soon destined to become someone’s favourite book!
SERVICES
Copy Editing
Writing may not be a seamless experience, but reading should be. Focusing on clarity, consistency, and completeness, I will make your unique voice and vision shine—with not a word out of place! As the needs of each manuscript are different, I have created two packages to assist authors: Ready to Revise and Ready to Refine.
Proofreading: The final step in the publishing process, proofreading is meant to correct any errors that have slipped through previous rounds of editing. This is your last chance to ensure you make a great first impression—and as a certified proofreader, I am especially qualified to help clients publish with ease and confidence. Are you Ready to Publish?
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
I am one of those dedicated readers who loves stories but will always notice typos, grammatical errors, unintentional changes of the main character’s hair colour, or inconsistent use of em dashes. It turns out, I was made to be an editor.
I got my start as an editorial assistant at an educational publisher. After almost a decade working for a variety of companies, I craved working more closely with authors and wanted to help them navigate the world of writing and publishing. In 2015, I began Jennifer Dinsmore Editorial.
Since then I have helped numerous authors along their publishing journey, and have developed a reputation as a friendly, reliable editor with a sharp eye for detail.
Speaking of detail, because of my natural affinity for copyediting and proofreading I have focused my work for independent authors and publishers on these services so you can get the best of what I have to offer.
My goal is to make sure that your voice is unencumbered by mistakes, misunderstandings, and misprints so you can publish the book you’ve always envisioned.
I believe in working to keep my skills sharp and up-to-date, and frequently seek opportunities for professional development. Listed below are just a few of the courses and webinars I’ve completed.
-
NNELS Accessible Publishing Summit School (National Network for Equitable Library Service)
-
How to Design a Book, IngramSpark Academy (IngramSpark)
-
Working with Indie Authors, taught by Tanya Gold (Tanya Gold: Book Editor and Writing Coach)
-

TESTIMONIALS
“My book would not be what it is without Jennifer’s help. Her invaluable input and suggestions helped make my first self-publishing experience so enjoyable.” — Robine Leacock, Author of “Evolo”
“I’ve worked with Jennifer for two novels now. For the first book she was my proofreader, and for the second book she was my editor. Working with Jennifer is a joy; she is professional, capable, and encouraging. She makes suggestions in her gentle way and helps me see the bigger picture. She has a great eye for catching inconsistencies in my writing. I will use Jennifer again and I would recommend her to anyone needing editing or proofreading services.” — C.P. Daly, author of the “Kelsey Woods” series
“Jennifer’s on-time, professional, and comprehensive editing service has made refining our manuscripts a breeze instead of a burden! Her attention to detail catches the small things that make a difference in polishing a book to a shine. The value she places on preserving our voice, style, and vision are invaluable.” — Renee Peters & Rae Stilwell, Authors of “The Aegean Immortals” series
