Member Profile
Emma Warnken Johnson
I am an experienced editor and indexer of academic writing, textbooks, trade non-fiction, and materials for educational and non-profit organizations.
I specialize in the humanities and social sciences, with a particular emphasis on areas in which I have academic training: cultural anthropology, archaeology, museum studies, history, and classical studies. I also have experience in the areas of sociology, education, health studies, film, and gender & sexuality studies.
I provide developmental/substantive editing, copy editing, proofreading, and indexing services, and have experience working with many different dictionaries and style guides, all while maintaining the unique voice and perspective of the author.
My background
I’ve worked on over 200 projects in the last 12 years, and have additional experience as an in-house production manager at an academic press, where I managed approximately 15 new titles at a time, including scheduling, budgeting, hiring freelancers, working with authors, and maintaining quality control. I received my editorial training at Toronto Metropolitan University, where I completed the publishing certificate.
Originally trained in the social sciences, I hold a BA in Anthropology and Classics (McGill University) and an MA in Archaeology (Institute of Archaeology, UCL). I have experience in fieldwork, archival work, and original research in those areas.
